Sophio Medoidze (b. Tbilisi, Georgia, formerly USSR) is a filmmaker, writer and visual artist currently living in London. Her practice embraces film, photography, writing and sculpture and explores the poetic potential of uncertainty. The desire for a community (both actual and imaginary) drives her narrative work, as she questions the interplay of the rural and urban, languages and translations, as well as gender politics and dynamics.
She has recently completed her first feature film Let us flow, over the past two decades she has made numerous short films (Xitana, Madoli, Jackals and drones), photography series (Glass factory, Details did disappeared) and sculptural works which have been exhibited and screened worldwide, including at Tate Modern (2022), OUTPOST Gallery (2022), Paris Internationale (2021), Centre d´art contemporain de Brétigny (2020), LUX Waterlow Park (2020), Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles (2019), Serpentine Cinema (2018), Kunstmuseum Luzern (2016), Whitechapel Gallery (2010); Film festivals such as Berwick film festival (2023), Kasseler Dokfest (2022), Avanca, Portugal (2015).
She received BA in film from Georgian State University of Theatre and Film (TAFU), she holds MA in Fine Art Photography from London College of Communication (2005)
and MFA from Goldsmiths College, London (2016).
Medoidze was a recipient of Projections Commissions 2019 (Tyneside Cinema), in 2018 she won Feature Expanded Development and Sub-ti awards for her film Let Us Flow.
